"Well, this was fun. We probably spent more time with the Nomad than with most rugged handhelds and notebooks that come to our lab. The 800 MHz Marvell PXA320 processor certainly had something to do with it.
The difference between it and the 624MHz PXA270 is much larger than we expected. The new chip just powers through tasks that resulted in delays or sluggish response with the older PXA270. And having that massive battery was nice as well. It's absolutely no fun having to worry about the battery charge when you're out and about. The Nomad's seems to last forever. Well, it's rated at up to 15 hours and we have no doubt it can do that. Yes, we did test it underwater, and if you saw the video we took of the underwater test you know the Nomad passed with flying colors. We know it's not a dive computer, but it's nice to know that if one accidentally drops into a puddle or even a pond or river while surveying, no big deal. And using Transcriber to do handwriting recognition underwater in full Scuba gear, that was fun.
