Best practices for submitting content at OutdoorRugged.com

Much of the value of OutdoorRugged.com comes from blog entries, photos and videos submitted by real-world users like you. To make submissions easier, here are some best practices to follow:

• Make sure you have uniformed text (listed as 2 (10pt) in the blog editor); this ensures your text formatting matches the rest of the site.

• If you have problems with the text like a different size or style, copy the text into a plain word program (like Microsoft notepad), and it will erase the encoded HTML. Then copy the text back into the blog editor.

•Test links for the correct URL.

• Use tags or keywords for your blogs, videos and photos that can be used to search through the site. Tags can include the name of who posted the content, the product, the action within the content, and so on.

• Before uploading your photos, adjust the size to no more than 300 pixels wide by 400 pixels high.

• It’s best to only post images after an intro paragraph; this ensures the text of your entry shows up on the home page.

• Video files must be 100MB or smaller. You can submit movies in .mov, .mpg, .avi, .3gp and .wmv file formats.

• Complete your Ning member profile, upload a photo of yourself, and learn how to join other networks of interest. Profiles are flexible, and you can change the template to fit your needs. Ning is about networking and spreading the word, and inviting others join OutdoorRugged.com increases the value of the site.

Please organize the forums better. The view of the threads/conversations should be more condensed, and there should be groups or catagories for conversations so they can be more easily navigated and searched.

I like the organization, but now that there are several conversaitons in each group, it would be better if they could be displayed as a more dense one-page list of major categories, and then a subsequent click would open the threads in a category.
