TDS featured in article: Ruggedized Smartphones Find Their Niche (InformationWeek)

"Smartphone makers Motorola, Intermec, and Tripod Data Systems are enclosing handsets in ruggedized cases and sales are soaring. Go ahead: Rock 'em, drop 'em, and knock 'em down. They can take it. " "In March Tripod Data Systems released a broadband wireless modem for its Nomad rugged handheld, completing the communications equation for this hardy smartphone. The Nomad, which operates on Windows Mobile, can now be fitted with an add-on EVDO cellular data modem that runs over the Sprint network,… Continue

Rener, I don't believe the RAM mount is sold through any of the Trimble dealers.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't expect any until 2008! Would the local (South African) Trimble distributors have the RAM Mount Cradle adapter, or is it only available from TDS? Where would one get the Tech Mount?
Finally - One of the images posted on the site shows a "curly cord" from the tankbag connected to something on the handlebars. Doesn't look like it's connected to the Nomad. What did you connect it to?

It's a "Tech Mount" brand specifically for motorcycles (TDS does not sell that), plus we used a RAM Mount cradle adapter with it, which TDS sells specific to Recon and Nomad. Personally, I like having the Nomad over Recon since it has the GPS integrated, and the VGA screen is fantastic. If you insist on using Recon, I'd go with a Bluetooth GPS since you would not want the tall-cap enclosure on the motorcycle because it will restrict your mounting options and might affect your full motion of the handlebar for turning.

Where did you get the mounting bracked for the Nomad? I'm considering a Recon for by bike (650 GS) and would like to mount it as well. Would you recommend a CF or Bluetooth receiver? Would the Recon work just as well if attached to a hang glider?
